Café Spice Namasté does a welcome dance for the Year of the Water Tiger!
A completely sold out Khaadraas (‘Greedy Pigs’) Supper Club celebrating Asian cuisines marked the beginning of the Lunar New Year at our new home in Royal Albert Wharf. The Year of the Water Tiger must bode well for us, given our impressive location by the Thames!
Cyrus and Pervin hosted an enthusiastic room happy to tuck into a 4-course feast inspired by Hakka and Fujian cuisines. Head Chef Manpreet looked on approvingly as starters of Loon Foong Soup, Crab Foo Yong and Won Ton Strips proved a promising prelude of things to come. Cyrus was happy to explain the choice of dishes, including a second course of Broccoli in Chilli & Garlic Cream Cake paired with a vegetarian Lo Bak Bo (Turnip Cake), followed by a third course of the classic Sichuan Kung Pao (or GungBo) Chicken, accompanied by vegetable and egg fried rice. Rounding off the meal, a trio for the sweet of tooth: a Crushed Date Pancake, Jalebi (a favourite Indian dessert with origins in Persia) and vanilla ice cream.
Also, for first time in the 25-year history of Café Spice Namaste, our restaurant shook with the exuberant beat of a Lion Dance, symbolising joy and good luck. Thank you to everyone who joined us for an unforgettable evening!
